TAONGA TRAIL | CULTURAL FEATURES AT THE BASE

Kia ora!  Many people know that The Base is named for its history as a New Zealand Airforce Base.  But stories of our culture, history and people have been built into the very architecture of our site.  Haere mai!  Whaowhia te kete maaturanga (fill your basket of knowledge) with our new Taonga Trail, now in-centre.

Look out for the whariki (woven floor mat) patterned decals and signs in-centre.  They'll direct your eyes to architectural features that are not only beautiful, but tell a story about the history of the site, the culture of the local people who once walked here and later developed our beautiful centre.
